News of
Bayside’s innovative programs is reaching foreign shores, with
swim teams from overseas now putting a visit to our club on
their itineraries.
During the
Easter holidays Bayside treated a team of teenagers from St
Stithian’s College, in Johannesburg, South Africa, to a day of
fun and challenge at Coogee beach.
A combined group
of some 60 swimmers from ages 8-20 took part in a series of
ocean swims, relay events and sand events. The culmination of
the day was the across the bay swim, in which all participants
completed a challenging swim from the baths at south Coogee to
the very northern end of the beach.
While some of
the boys from St Stithians had not swum in the ocean before,
they took to the challenge with gusto, and provided some of the
stronger Bayside swimmers with some healthy competition.
The day was a
huge success, providing the swimmers from Bayside a rare
opportunity to make friends with visitors from overseas.
